Update from Mayor Brian Spoales

7/6/2018

Hello Millvale

TGIF and the sun was out for most of the day bringing sunlight to our awesome citizens and surrounding communities.  As I sit here and write this I get overwhelmed with the out pouring of support that Millvale has received over the past two days.  We have had a ton and I say a ton of individuals walk through our community center doors with donations that is helping to brighten up our citizens even more than the sun.  If you live in Millvale and have been affected by the rain yesterday, please make your way to the community center to pick up supplies all from a pack of crackers to 5-gallon buckets of cleaning supplies.

I personally want to thank everyone involved but need to get a shout out to Mayor Tom from Etna who arrived at our offices at 8am and hauled donations both into the center and transported items to homes of those who could not carry or make their way up to the community center.

Today we held our Disaster Recovery Meeting inclusive of the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, North Hills Community Outreach, Allegheny County Emergency Services and leaders of Millvale.   Following is a list of our next steps in restoring Millvale to its natural glory.

North Hills Community will be open tomorrow Saturday July 7th in their Allison Park location to accept donations from 9 – noon.  They are looking for Hot Water Tanks, Washers, Dryers.

Volunteers – If you wish to volunteer please arrive at the community center around 9am tomorrow, Saturday July 7th.  There will be groups headed out to help the citizens clean out their basements from appliances to mud.  We will also have a group from Team Rubicon, Christ Lutheran Church and Shaler Area School District Teachers some of whom are already on the ground tonight.  The Community Center will be open Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 6pm.  We will reevaluate if we will need to be open next week.

Salvation Army Food Truck – The salvation army food truck will be in town from 11am – 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.  The plan is for them to drive a continuous circle throughout Millvale offering snacks and meals for those in need.  If you need anything, please stop them and be mindful of the moving traffic that will be passing.

MARC – Multiple Agency Resource Center

We will hold a MARC meeting next Thursday July 12th from 1pm to 7pm in the community center.  The Red Cross will be contacting agencies around the county to join in this event and we encourage anyone who lost appliances during this rain storm to attend and make contact on what items you need.

Keep your heads up and keep on smiling Millvale.  We will become stronger than we currently are.

Thank you again to everyone who has supported us in the past two days and hope to see you out this weekend continuing the cleanup efforts
