Waste Management Service Updates

New updates - March 2, 2023
WM

Millvale Borough, along with other North Hills municipalities, publicly bid a new residential garbage contract this fall. As a result of the new contract, there are several changes. Waste Management will be mailing correspondence regarding these changes. More information will be released as we receive it.

UPDATES (2/28/2023):

Residents/property owners should have received correspondence from Waste Management directly regarding service changes and updates to refuse service in the Borough of Millvale.

We have been receiving phone calls regarding this correspondence, and we would like to take this opportunity to address some questions/concerns we have received.

  • Waste Management is moving towards semi-automated refuse service for the Borough of Millvale.
  • Beginning in March, all households will receive one 64-gallon trash can, as the default. There is an option to downgrade to a smaller 35-gallon can instead of the 64-gallon can. If you would prefer a 35-gallon can, please e-mail your request to WPACustomerService@wm.com with your Name, Service Address, City, State, ZIP, phone and e-mail.
  • 64-gallon cans can hold about 5 kitchen trash bags, while 35-gallon cans can hold about 3 kitchen trash bags.
  • All trash must fit inside the cart, with the lid closing. No trash will be picked up outside of the cart.
  • If you need an additional cart, now or in the future - households must contact WM at 1-800-451-3060.
  • Bulk pick up - Once a month, 3rd week of the month.
  • Recycle - all items must fit in the provided recycling can.
  • CART PLACEMENT - As near to an open area as possible, this may not be possible in many areas. As such, continue to place your cart where it has always been placed.

We do not have a definitive date on when carts will be delivered, as soon as we receive information, we will share it with you.

UPDATE (3/2/2023)

As noted on the mailer that WM sent to households, the deadline to send your cart downgrade request stated March 1, 2023. We acknowledge that households only received this mailer on or around February 27, 2023 - not leaving much time to mail back the post card. After further discussion, we have been provided with a slight extension with March 8, 2023. We highly recommend emailing your request to the address listed above for a faster response time. If you prefer to mail your request in, please do so by March 4, 2023 (Saturday) to allow for adequate time for WM to receive your request via USPS.
