Gardens of Millvale

gardenWhat are the Gardens of Millvale?

The world could use a little more green. The Gardens of Millvale does just that. An offshoot of MCDC’s Clean, Safe and Green committee, this program brings together residents and business owners to teach the art of horticulture and to make greening and growing projects happen.

Why?

It’s a good question: Why do we have six garden plots throughout the neighborhood? From the ancient olive groves of Rome to the Victory Gardens for WWII, gardens have inspired hope. Today, our urban farming program brings people together in the outdoors, teaching young and old alike about food and flowers as well as implementing stewardship in our neighborhoods and restoring the soil in vacant lots. It is said that gardening is “a way of showing that you believe in tomorrow.” It provides a new mode for creative expression in what used to be industrialized flood zones and is a second blooming for Millvale.
