LINCOLN AVENUE / FREEMONT STREET BRIDGE CLOSURE
As the Borough reported last week, PennDOT has required the Borough to close the Freemont Street and Lincoln Avenue @ North bridges. The bridges will be closed indefinitely. A change in the PennDOT bridge inspection process has placed the Millvale bridges in a category of concern much sooner than anticipated. For example, Lincoln Avenue Bridge went from a 17-ton limit / 11-year life expectancy to closure over a two-year inspection period.
PennDOT has notified the Borough that the Lincoln Avenue Bridge will be officially closed tomorrow, January 26, 2023. Additionally, the Fremont Street bridge will receive additional barricades from PennDOT. Sidewalks will remain open on Lincoln and Freemont.
All emergency services have been notified, including Ross West View EMS and County 911. No service delay or interruption is anticipated.
Detours will be posted tomorrow in combination with the closures. At this time, the detour will be: (as we watch the traffic patterns over the next week, we may make changes if needed).
The Borough is working with PennDOT and Commonwealth Officials to acquire funding for the repair and replacement of the bridges.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate this challenge.
