ARTISTS IN MILLVALE STOREFRONTS
PROPERTY OWNERS

What does the property owner provide?
The property owner provides an accessible storefront and a secure door with a lock. The property owner should also provide general liability insurance and a set of keys to allow the artist to enter the space as necessary to install their art work. It is also helpful if the artists can store supplies in the storefront until the installation is complete.

Will the property owner select the art?
No - The property owner will be given a sketch or picture of the proposed installation and may object to the installation; the artist may choose to revise the work if not a new site will be chosen if possible.

What will the property owner pay for?
The property owner will cover the cost of utilities. The artist will cover the cost of creating the art and installation. The artwork belongs to the artist.

What if the property owner wants the art to stay in longer?

The property owner and artist may extend the installation period on their own.

REQUIREMENTS

Window & Site Cleaning
In order to provide a clean window and easy access for the art installation, the window and storefront will be cleaned at no cost to the property owner if required. If your property requires preliminary cleaning, you will provide access to the site as needed between July 1-7, 2011. Window and site cleaning will be coordinated by the MBDC and Borough.
The Artist will be presented with a clean, safe and accessible window by July 8, 2011.

Art Installation
The art installation will take place between July 8 and August 1, 2011.

The Artist and their designated installation crew listed will be granted keys or scheduled access to the inside of the property to install the window display. The specific schedule of the installation will be provided to the property owner once the artist and artwork have been selected.

The Property Owner or their authorized agent agrees to provide during agreed upon hours: electricity and electrical outlets, running water when required, access to bathrooms when required, and keys or regularly scheduled access for the Artist and their designated installation crew. If possible, the Property Owner or their authorized agent will provide a “save” space to store materials needed for the installation.

The MBDC will provide the property owner with the name and contact information for the artist, once they have been selected, as well as the names and contact information of any installation or cleaning crew that will need access to the property.

The property owner will allow the window to be temporarily covered with paper during the installation until the launch event. In some instances, the artist may want the installation to be visible. This will be arranged between the project manager and the Property Owner/manager.

The Property Owner or their authorized agent agrees to allow the artist to apply removable vinyl signage on the window describing the Artist, project, website link; Property Owner may opt to include his/her contact information.

Additional building modifications can be negotiated and will be listed.

The Property Owner or their authorized agent agrees to allow the installation of the attached proposed sample art installation, understanding the actual installation may differ or build upon the description attached.

ARTISTS IN STOREFRONTS LAUNCH EVENT
August 3, 2011

All public viewing will occur from the sidewalk, the public will not have the right to enter into the storefront space.

The Property Owner agrees to provide unobstructed public viewing from the street.

Public Viewing, Closure & De-installation of Art
Art installations should remain installed for viewing by the public from the sidewalk through January 22, 2012.

If the storefront property is leased or purchased after the date this agreement is signed and the new lessee / owner wants the artwork removed this contract becomes void.

The Artist and MBDC will be responsible for the timely removal of the artwork and return the space to its original state upon completion of the project.

Insurance
The Millvale Borough Development Corporation recognizes the program and provides basic coverage. We highly recommend that artists purchase outside insurance on installations.
