Proposal Guidelines
Please read the following guidelines carefully so that your proposal may translate successfully to the Selection Panel. Proposals should be tailored to Millvale’s downtown area.
| |
Eligibility
Applicants may be individuals or artist collectives. Organizations may apply as a collective.
Artwork will need to be viewable from the street. It will not be possible for viewers to enter the storefront space.
Applicants must be able to complete the installation by August 1; be available to attend an opening event specific to their site: be available to conduct an artist talk scheduled specifically for their installation; be available to complete the project de-installation during the scheduled dates of January 23-27; and be available to respond to any press requests, as they arise.
| |
Artist Stipend
Selected artists will receive a $250 stipend to cover all costs associated with the installation of the artwork.
| |
Artist Selection Process
Artists will be selected through a review process. A selection panel comprised of representatives from the MBDC and MAA&C will review the proposals. All genres of art will be considered, with an emphasis on high-quality presentations that will engage audiences in downtown Millvale.
| |
Proposal Considerations
Proposals should be for site specific work.
Proposals should respond to the history, distinctive character, and festive nature of Millvale.
If electronic equipment and lighting are part of the installation, the proposal should address the requirements.
The strongest submissions will be the ones that employ inventive media and engage the downtown in an innovative and dynamic way.
| |
Selection Criteria
Quality of artwork proposed and qualifications as demonstrated by artwork created within the last five (5) years.
Appropriateness of proposal to site, compatibility in scale, material, form and content with the project surroundings and installation methods.
Ability to communicate, involve and work with the community through all facets of the work of art.
Realistic planning, safety, and appropriate proposed project timeline.
The Borough reserves the right to select and interview finalists prior to making a selection. Interviews will be conducted and evaluated using the above criteria.
| |
Work Sample
Artistic work samples are required and should be submitted with your proposal. At least one image should show a rough sketch of your proposed installation, and three images/samples should be of past artworks that relate to the proposal and give a greater context to your overall art practice.
| |
